Tech Advances For 2014
Although most of these advances are interesting, I wanted to direct attention to the kinds of inventions that have a disruptive effect in the world. By disruptive, I mean the invention crosses multiple ( if not all) industries or is a game changer for elevating quality of life. although one can make the argument that inventing within the area of space travel could have great benefit to millions in the future, there is not much going on in technological development that is anywhere near the disruption we have enjoyed with advances in the internet over a decade ago. Generally, there is a cyclical correlation that can be tied to a couple of things. 1. weakening of patent laws across the globe 2. lower levels of economic freedom across the globe. When this occurs, the advancements in technology promoted are agenda driven by the state and driven by large corporations in mature industries. As the west continues to decline, unfortunately southeast Asia may not pick up the slack in technological advance and we will continue to see reversals in the types of technology that elevate the human condition.
