Adam Baldwin, no relation to the fruit cake Baldwin family. This guys a conservative with a strong fan base following, meaning he would get butts in seats and sell tickets. You might know him as Jayne on "Firefly" or John Casey from "Chuck" or any number of other TV shows he's been on. Oh and he was Animal Mother in "Full Metal Jacket".

Michael Weatherly looks the part. Don't know his political persuasion. The actor has to be the same age as the characters Dagney and Francisco.

Gary and Jim are both good but just think for a minute before dismissing the choice.

Someone who lives his life with consistency and respect. He seems to portray the same in his onscreen roles - Like Hugh Jackman ?

Jim Caviezel (from Person of Interest) has the cool, calm demeanor that I see in John Galt.

IMHO Benedict Cumberbact made up similar to the Star Trek Khan would be ideal.

Gary Sinise would work, as would Tom Selleck. Going a little bit older - James Caan? What would be neat would be Ted Nugent!!! Whoever it is needs to live by same or similar principles as John Galt.....

What an interesting assortment of suggestions. It's funny when I read the book the image I had is not of anyone I know, or even an actor I can think of. I really liked Grant B as Henry in AS1, maybe he's the one :)

Gary Senise. He would be the right age for the part if he was already working at 20th Century motor works before tagney even found the place. I thought he did a perfect job in all creative aspects of Stephen Kings "the Stand" good versatile actor and far from the left coast mentality. Also a wonderful guy if you ever met him. There's probably a lot of actors who fit the bill but he was my first thought. Just dont shoot us in the foot and change all the characters like you did in 1 and two.

I think He would be a good choice as well. Maybe even Gary Senise.

Tommy Lee Jones is who I see as John Galt. I don't believe anyone's political thinking has anything to do with the choice if someone is a good actor and I see him in that role.

Most mentioned below especially Gary Sinise would be good; however, we must remember budget so any "A" list actor is out. Keanu Reeves hasn't done much since Matrix and he can play the intelligent philosopher.

I think there would be some good options. Pitt - ok, but would he do it with a pay cut - maybe. Bradley cooper - perhaps - versatility yet to be seen and historical roles may color the perception. Lastly, and my vote, Clive Owen - serious straightforward - great screen presence. Don't know his personal values, but if in line that's my vote.

The two yes or no questions I found about casting John Galt were far to narrow to do you any real good in actual casting. I sent you a comment when I read D.B. Sweeney was already cast. Perhaps many others did also. Surely there are many actors who understand this work and would like to lend their talent. I'm anxious to see what you do. Da Vinci's Demons recently introduced me to so many perfect actors. Their roles could be done differently by others but not better. Tom Riley is perfect in every possible way...and he is filling the theatrical shoes of THE MAN. Since childhood (more than 7 decades ago) I have had three favorites - Da Vinci, Hepatia, and Tesla. Even the fictional Galt holds a special place in our hearts. So I hope you cast well. It is an all important role. Thank you to the entire crew.

I think the role should go to a voice actor like Corey Burton. I know he'd create exactly the right voice for the speech and what he looks like doesn't matter. I don't know if he has a passion for Ayn Rand or objectivism, but he's a consummate professional who has made his living on his own unique talent and abilities.
