The Country of the Kind

Reminded me once again of this story. In some ways i can relate to the protagonist... but not in others.
The Country of the Kind is a haunting text about the law of unintended consequences in a liberal world.
The protagonist, telling the story in the first person... is King of the World. He literally can have and do virtually anything he wants (he can't fly without a plane or breathe vacuum, obviously).
Or is he?
In society's misbegotten benevolence, they've been unusually cruel....
